One person was killed and six others were injured in a vehicle crash on State Highway 30 at Horohoro this afternoon.
The accident happened at around 1:30pm on Tuesday, when an ute, traveling east along State Highway 20, collided with a logging truck.
A log that reportedly fell from the truck struck another ute. The woman riding is in stable condition, and two others were taken to the hospital but not admitted.
It was revealed that the deceased, who was from Tokoroa, was the driver of the ute. Two other passengers–a woman and a child–were brought to the Rotorua Hospital but are both in stable condition.
The truck driver, which was also taken to the hospital, suffered minor injuries but was not admitted. A number of logs were needed to be removed from the road.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, but investigations have already started. Police said that it is too early to say if the rain had contributed to the crash.
